- 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Pinch of flaky sea salt
For the French Toast:
- 1 loaf ACE Sourdough Bistro Bread
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk (or half-and-half for richer)
- ½ cup pumpkin purée
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 ½ teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- Butter or neutral oil, for the skillet
For Serving:
- Maple syrup
- Pumpkin spice butter (above)
- Optional: powdered sugar, toasted pecans, or whipped cream
Instructions
- Make the Pumpkin Spice Butter: In a small bowl, mash together the softened butter, maple syrup, pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, and salt until smooth. Transfer to a ramekin, cover, and chill until ready to use (soften slightly before serving).
- Mix the Custard: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, pumpkin purée, brown sugar, vanilla, pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
- Dip the Bread: Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a pat of butter. Dip each slice of ACE Sourdough Bistro Bread into the custard, letting it soak for about 10–15 seconds per side.
- Cook: Place soaked bread slices onto the skillet and cook 3–4 minutes per side, until golden brown and slightly crisp at the edges.
- Serve: Stack French toast slices, add a generous dollop of pumpkin spice butter, and drizzle with maple syrup. Finish with powdered sugar, toasted pecans, or whipped cream if you like.
